Andy Ma Fencing Center won its first international medal only one week after opening. The club's fencer Thomas Kolasa won bronze in the sabre event at the SISTA International Fencing Tournament in Amsterdam, the Netherlands on September 9th.
In the pool round, Kolasa was undefeated after beating fencers from France, Austria, Great Britain, and the Netherlands.
In the direct elimination rounds, he beat fencers from Canada, Mexico, and the United States before succumbing to the eventual gold medalist from Italy, 15-10.
"I only switched coaches to Coach Ma a few weeks before, so I didn't know what to expect. Although some of my bouts started slow, I was able to internalize my training and finish my bouts strong" Kolasa said. "The whole coaching staff has been very supportive of my transition. This was my best result in five years!"
Fencers from 18 countries and 3 continents participated in the FIE tournament.
